Friday night Soup Kitchen has needs: Last week Pastor Nicholson ministered to a middle-aged man that slept outdoors near Merrill Field when George Bayayok died of hypothermia. He found out that some of the homeless are sleeping outdoors without proper shoes or clothing. Church member Anecia Chiklak says used winter clothing is always needed and she would welcome donations to keep the homeless warm. Out of her home Anecia runs a Friday night downtown soup kitchen, which she says involves as many as 100 street people per night. She says, “These men and women are always hungry and cold!” Sister Anecia is always interested in donations of meat (fish, caribou or moose) for the hot soup. Every once in a while she needs a driver. Also needed are soul winners to assist Anecia. These are those called of God to offer counsel and prayer for people on the street. If you would like to help in this Mother Theresa style of ministry, please contact Anecia, anytime, at 278-1991.
Church Council meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2009, at 3 PM: In preparation for the annual Church business meeting all departmental heads are encouraged to begin draft of the yearly reports, i.e. Pastor’s & Elders, Trustee, Sunday School, Women’s Fellowship, Young Believer’s in Christ, Hospital Chaplain, Treasurer, etc. These reports are due in the Pastor’s Office by January 12, 2009. A big decision at the Church Council is to approve the 2009 General Fund Budget, a 2009 Building Fund Budget, and approval for a second non-profit organization that the Joint Board was delegated to research and recommend to the Council for approval.
Watchnight Service is scheduled for December 31, 2008, 11 PM, at TUMC. Please plan on being there to worship as we close the old year and begin the New Year. This is your time to receive your scripture promise for the upcoming months. It is the final night of the year and an opportunity to reflect on the events of the past and looking ahead to the future. This is a night devoted to a new covenant with our Lord, to a new commitment to witness and service. The service begins at 11 PM and concludes slightly past midnight.

Our Church Text for Candlelight Service: Luke 1:26-38 - "In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you." But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end."Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I am a virgin?" The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. And now, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be impossible with God." Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word." Then the angel departed from her."

Church Van Drivers accepted by Church Trustees: Two new Church van drivers will begin driving soon. We welcome Mary Anaruk and Roxanne Anaruk who are filling out the insurance forms this week and will begin driving soon. The Trustees received them last Sunday, December 14, 2008, during their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
General Fund Giving: As a result of the stewardship drive from September 16, 2008 through November 16, 2008, the General Fund (GF) giving is down. Please consider giving more to the GF during the Advent season and for the remainder of the year. Reason is so that we can better fund and maintain our church programs. Thank you for your loving support of the Lord’s work!
