Announcement/News for Week of October 12
Parents, please read this!!! Confirmation Class begins Sunday, October 12, 2008, at 2 –2:45 PM, TUMC. This class is for grades 7th-12th students. It prepares one to become a communicant member of the Anchorage Moravian Church. Confirmation graduation will be on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2009.
The focus is Basic Christianity with short and brief history on the World-wide Moravian Church and the Alaska Moravian Church as well as a Power Point presentation on Customs and Practices of the Moravian Church.
Confirmands will become familiar with the books of the Bible, the Lord's Prayer as well as the Apostles Creed, and understanding the sacraments (baptism and communion) of the church.
Please remember that church membership is a matter of your decision. Confirmation is something you do. When you finish this course, you will be given opportunity to be confirmed on Palm Sunday 2009, which affirms your original baptismal promises made by your parents.

Children & Youth Facilitator Position Available
A Children/Youth Facilitator Minister position opens at the AncMC. Position is 8-12 hours a week at $10/hr. As a part-time position this employment offers oversight to the children and youth programs of the church. The AncMC Joint Board approved on September 28, 2008 to allow the opening of this position from September 29, 2008 with an end date of October 13, 2008, 9 AM. A specific job description follows and takes into account the care of young children during the Sunday worship and special services of the Church. Alaska Missionary Helen Klokow Memories
Sister Helen Klokow, former Alaska Moravian Missionary enters the Eternal Kingdom

Helen Klokow, wife of The Rev. Melvin Klokow, missionary to southwestern Alaska among the Eskimos, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2008 at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She is now in the eternal kingdom of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Helen was a wonderful supporter of the Alaska Moravian Church. Pastor Nicholson says that both Melvin and Helen displayed alot of enthusiasum for the Lord's continued work in the Kuskokwim area. He met them when they visited Bethel, Alaska in 1999 to attend the formal dedication of a new Bethel Moravian Church building.
Sunday School, adult teacher, Carrie Anvil-Kiana and Trustee says of Helen's passing....."I met the Klokows when they came to Bethel in the late 1960s....."

Your Donated Dollars Will Begin to Do Something
The Anchorage Moravian Church Joint Board voted unanimously to set $50,000 as our new Church Building Fund Raising/Extravaganza Goal from September 7, 2008 to November 16, 2008. As of Sunday September 28, 2008 over $6,000 has been raised. Every member and friend of the Church is challenged to donate funds as an act of faith. Shown is an AncMC conceptual drawing of a building similar to what we may be able to own. We are shooting for special fund raising campaign this year and may solict state and federal funds so that our social service arm (creation currently in progress, but needs to be decided by a special Church Council meeting on November 2, 2008) is able to make a significant and positive impact upon those from rural Alaska moving into the southcentral area.

Hospital Chaplain Position Available
The AncMC is offering the Position of Hospital Chaplain to service rural people from southwestern Alaska who are in area hospitals and Assistive Living Centers. This employment opportunity offering a monthly salary of $650 plus other benefits is a part-time job totaling 76 hour monthly or 38 hours bi-monthly. The Chaplain is funded partially by the Alaska Moravian Church as well as the Moravian congregation in Anchorage, Alaska. The position is open from September 8, 2008 until September 22, 2008, at 9 AM. The Rev. William Nicholson was consecrated as the Alaska Province's 2nd Bishop on May 4, 2008, 3 PM, at 1st Congregational Church in Anchorage, Alaska. Bishop's Arthur Freeman and Jacob Nelson officiated the consecration service. Information about the officiants and biography of Brother Nicholson follows here:
